This Scheme is established to enable current serving officers to undertake a study tour, which will contribute to the development of their professionalism and help the Police Service of Northern Ireland deliver a better service to the community. ‘ Policing Business Crime’ is the theme for this year. The ten crime types covered in the Deputy Chief Constable’s business crime strategy are: Robbery, Theft, Burglary, Criminal Damage, Extortion, Violent Crime, Criminal Finance, Technology-enabled crime, Intellectual Property Theft and Counterfeit currency. Applicants may choose to research one or more of these crime types.
The Scheme

The Bursary Scheme in the year 2008 will be awarded to up to five officers to enable them to travel to their chosen country for a period of up to one month. The scheme is not aimed primarily at attachment to other Police organisations but also at partnerships with organisations working in and with communities.

The Bursary, which will be worth a maximum of £5000, will cover the cost of travel and subsistence. Salary will continue to be paid by PSNI. This Scheme is accredited by the University of Ulster.
Who Can Apply

Any currently serving officer with more than five years service at 1st January 2008 up to and including Inspector rank. There is no academic standard required. Officers who have previously been awarded a bursary are excluded from this year’s scheme.
